All-rounder Deepti Sharma and young batsman Shubman Gill were the toast of the evening at the BCCI Awards 2024.

The Indian cricket community gathered in Hyderabad on Monday for a glamorous celebration to commemorate the accomplishments of the previous year.

Deepti Sharma and Shubman Gill Win Top Honours for Outstanding Performances:

Deepti Sharma, the Indian women’s team star all-rounder, was once again in the spotlight as she bagged the Polly Umrigar Award for the Best International Cricketer (Women) for the 2022-23 season. This is the second time Sharma has received this prestigious award, having previously won it in 2019-20.

Deepti Sharma has played consistent all-round performances, it have been instrumental in India’s success in recent years. In the 2022-23 season, she was the leading wicket-taker for India in both ODIs and T20Is, while also making valuable contributions with the bat.

Shubman Gill, the young opening batsman who has taken the cricketing world by storm, received the Polly Umrigar Award for the Best International Cricketer (Men) for the 2022-23 season. Gill has established himself as a vital member of the Indian team in all forms thanks to his incredible improvement over the past year.

In the 2022-23 season, Gill became the fastest Indian batsman to reach 2000 runs in ODIs. He also scored five centuries in ODIs during the period, showcasing his immense talent and potential.

Lifetime Achievement Awards Bestowed on Cricket Legends:

The BCCI Awards 2024 also saw two legendary figures of Indian cricket, Farokh Engineer and Ravi Shastri, being honored with the prestigious Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.

Engineer, who played 46 Tests for India between 1961 and 1975, is regarded as one of the finest wicket-keeper batsmen the country has produced. He was also a key member of the 1971 World Cup-winning team.

Shastri, a former India captain and head coach, enjoyed a successful career both on and off the field. As head coach, he led India to their historic Test series wins in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
